Preliminary Exercise Evaluation

AS Media Studies – Preliminary Exercise Evaluation

Your task is to critically assess your Preliminary Exercise.
      ·        Start by explaining the story you were trying to tell
      ·        Did you include all of the listed editing techniques, if not, why not?

      ·        Carefully explain how you created each of the following:

o   Match on Action
o   Eye line Match
o   Shot, Reverse Shot
o   180 Degree

      ·        Critically assess your own technical capabilities.

o   Did you use each technique accurately?
o   Did you make any mistakes? If so, what went wrong and what would you do differently next time?

      ·        Overall

o   What are the most positive elements of your film (what did you do well?)
o   Where in your film would you need to make improvements?

At the end of the course you will have to assess the progress you have made from this task to the final product.  You will be able to make reference to this piece of work.

Preliminary Task

You will be demonstrating understanding of continuity editing in the first piece of
coursework.
This is the PRELIMINARY TASK

This must be completed and posted onto your blog before you begin the THRILLER COURSEWORK

The preliminary task is a demonstration of CONTINUITY EDITING. It must show you can successfully use:
  • Match on Action
  • Shot/Reverse Shot
  • 180 degree rule
  • Eyeline match

In the sequence we should see the following action unfold:
  • Character A walks towards a closed door
  • Character A enters through the door and crosses a room to where character B is seated.
  • Characters A and B exchange a few lines of dialogue.
  • There is at least one use of an eyeline match
  • Character A exits the room

    Script:

Character A Enters the room and walks toward Character B.
Character A:                  Do you have it?
Character B:                  What’s the password?
A:                                 Which way are the birds flying?
B:                                  South. Have you got the money?
A:                                  Yes. (Hands over envelope)

Character B hands over the package. Character A exits the room.
