'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' Editing Exercise

Music Video Duet Editing Exercise

   1)   Using Elton John and Kiki Dee’s Don’t Go Breaking My Heart film a duet from at least three different angles.

   2)   Film the song all the way through taking care to look into the camera where appropriate and think carefully about sightlines. Also, watch out for the mise-en-scene – do not film into a light source.

   3)   When editing upload each of the complete takes of the song and layer them on separate Final Cut timelines.

   4)   Upload the music and synchronise each of the layers to the music.

   5)   You can now choose how to edit between the layers and each will be completely synchronised throughout

    1)      What are the rules and conventions of a thriller? (See attached Powerpoint for help). DUE 18^TH OCTOBER

    2)      Summary of North by Northwest. You should summarise the plot and discuss whether Thornhill is the typical resourceful hero we might expect from a thriller. DUE 20^TH OCTOBER

    3)      What different types of thrillers are there? E.g spy/political etc. Give examples of films too. DUE 23^RD OCTOBER

    4)      What is the definition of suspense/shock? Give examples from scenes in North by Northwest/The Birds. DUE 23^RD OCTOBER

    5)     Definition of a Maguffin. Give examples from a film. DUE 23^RD OCTOBER

    6)      Information/research on Alfred Hitchcock. Do not just copy from the internet. Put it into your own words. Concentrate on his influences and style. DUE 1^ST NOVEMBER

Your task is to critically assess the success of your sound exercise assignment and write a detailed analysis of the decisions you made.

It is vital to learn from your mistakes so the most important aspect of this assignment is acknowledge where you made mistakes and how you could avoid them next time.

·        Start by explaining the sequence you filmed

·        Did you include all the listed sound techniques? If not, why not?

·        Carefully explain the ‘thinking’ behind each shot demonstrating a particular sound technique
